Resume – Do’s and Don’ts

– Use a consistent font throughout the entire resume
– Include a brief background at start of the resume to highlight core strengths (ideally just top 5 highlights – eg. Strong in strategic planning, business development, contract negotiation, etc)
– Tailor the background to the specific job in application (“fit-for-purpose”)
– Display career history with the latest role on top
– Include a brief company description for every job
– highlight core achievements for each of the roles (if applicable)
– Indicate location/home base of the roles (if working across different countries)
– Indicate reporting line and number of staff under direct supervision (if applicable) for each role

– Avoid over-using bold/underline/italics
– Keep resume simple and precise – no lengthy paragraphs
– Do not use abbreviations
– Do not use multiple colours – Black is most preferred
